Have you ever stood in line at an ice cream shop with a long row of flavors to choose from? Do you go with the chocolate chunks and swirled caramel or the strawberry with cheesecake chunks? Pecan? Pistachio? Vanilla Bean? Mocha? Raspberry? And what’s that…? PUMPKIN??!
When I first quit my job and became a stay at home mom. I got a little stuck.
Kinda like I wasn’t going anywhere with my brain. Then I discovered I wasn’t in a prison, I was in an ice cream shop.
All the dreams, aspirations, or things I found fascinating were flavors God gave me to choose from.
Flavors that could add color and sweetness to my life. It’s easy to be in a daily grind and feel like you are stuck. But really you have tons of flavorful options to dip into. Just pick.
I think there is also a sense of guilt for some moms, or a feeling of selfishness to put time and effort into a passion that isn’t directly related to tending to your children. I’m not saying you need to ignore your children. Bring them along with you.
Share what you are learning and doing with them.
I think we all have dreams and desire to better ourselves and our situations. But it usually stops there. We get hung up on the possibility of failing, the amount of hard work involved, or just the inability to choose between chocolate or vanilla. I know I do.
But every time I have stepped out of my comfort zone and confronted my fears, the rewards have undoubtedly been greater.
“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each new experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face…we must do that which we think we cannot.” -Eleanor Roosevelt
