This ‘objects that start with R’ list can be used for planning alphabet activities, as well as, helping to build skills in reading, writing, vocabulary, and spelling. With that being said, here are a few different activities you can use this list for:

  • Read Picture books that Feature the letter R – To get more familiar with objects that start with R, why not read books that feature R words and repeat them throughout the text? You can get a picture books for letter R list, and get started today! Here are a couple books for letter R that our kids enjoy: Roxaboxen by Alice McLerran and The Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister.
  • Play the Categories for R Words Game – To play the categories for R word game, begin by jotting down a few columns of categories on a whiteboard. (These categories can include things like: animals, things in space, clothes, musical item, household objects, etc.) Then, set a timer and have your kids try and fill the categories with as man R words as they can come up with before the timer goes off.
  • Play ‘What I will Bring’ Game: To play this game, gather some friends or family together and sit around in a circle. Then, the first person will start their turn by saying “I’m going on vacation and I want to bring…” (each person start their turn with this line then repeats all the previous answers before they add there’s. The object of the game is to name only items that start with the letter R.)
  • R Objects Bean Bag Toss – To prepare for this game you’ll need to grab a bean bag and then takes some time to review your list of objects that start with R. To play the game, stand in an open and spread out circle and begin tossing the bean bag to each other (going around the circle) The trick is, that with each toss, each players needs to name an item that begins with the letter R. Whoever runs out of R words is out until the next round.
