Pumpkin-themed Unit Study
Autumn is the perfect time to dive a little deeper into learning more about pumpkins, gourds, and squash.
This fall, I am planning a week-long pumpkin unit study where we go pumpkin-picking, learn the parts of a pumpkin, talk about how they grow, read books about pumpkins, make a couple pumpkin treats, and get our hand sticky.
We plan on spending the week getting acquainted with all things pumpkin.
Pumpkin Busy Book
I plan on adding this printable preschool resource to our week of pumpkin festivities. I think it will be nice to have a resource the kids can practice the concepts with over and over.
This busy book is an interactive, half-page booklet that teaches kids about pumpkins, basic math, and literacy. It also builds fine motor skills as they match and move pieces.

How to Assemble this Busy Book:

This project is a little prep work up front, but the result is definitely worth it! After you print the pages you will need to laminate them, and cut them in half. (I have my older kids help, and it goes really quickly.)
Next, you will need to cut out the pieces on the pages that say ‘cut’. (These will be the moveable pieces that your child will attach to the pages.)
Attach the pieces, using clear velcro. (Don’t skimp on the velcro, or the book won’t withstand multiple uses.)
Lastly, put it together in a half 3-ring binder or have it bound at a local print shop. (Mine cost me about $3 to have bound.)
