The Best Christmas Books for Kids

Happy December! Today I’m sharing some of our favorite picture books about Christmas along with a few activities to make them even more fun.

1. The Grinch who stole Christmas –Grinch-mas! Have a fun whimsical day in Grinchy mode. Perhaps your heart will grow three sizes…

• Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream.
• Coloring Sheets
• Grinch slime! Yes please!
• Read Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas
• Watch the 26-minute classic of How the Grinch Stole Christmas

 

 

2. Polar Express– Spend the day traveling to the North pole, learning about trains, and sipping hot cocoa.

• Hot Chocolate (here is a healthified recipe)
• Time to break out the Duplo Blocks and make a train!
• Here is an adorable free matching game
• Read Chris Van Allsburg’s  The Polar Express
• Have a movie night with the family and watch the movie The Polar Express

 

 

3. Charlie Brown Christmas– Help Charlie Brown find the meaning of Christmas. Maybe you’ll learn a thing or two about acting, decorating, and Baby Jesus.

• Read  A Charlie Brown Christmas  by Charles Schultz
• Let the kids decorate a small tree (or a sad little branch)
• Here are some free Charlie Brown coloring sheets.
• Watch A Charlie Brown Christmas with a big bowl of popcorn.

 

 

 

4. Christmas in a Barn– Think about what it felt like to be born in a barn. What types of animals and sounds might you have heard?

•  Read Christmas in a Barn by Margaret Wise Brown
• You can make a felt manger scene and keep it out for the rest of the christmas
  season
•  Try to recreate the manger scene out of fruit.
