Printable Summer Reading Challenge
Today I’m sharing a fun, printable Summer Reading Challenge that you can use with your kids from preschool through 3rd grade.
Of all the things to include in your summer homeschool schedule, reading is something you certainly want to make time for. I love that this challenge highlights that reading isn’t just a cozy, indoor, winter activity, but can also be enjoyed in the summer season as well.
With that being said, let me show you what is included in this summer reading plan printable:

1. Two Printable Challenge Pages
There are two different pages in this summer reading challenge printable. And each page has twenty, fun-filled reading activities.
These activities work to incorporate books and reading into the summer experience. For example, some of the challenges include things like: Read in the shade, swap books with a friend, or read with flop-flops on.
2. Reading Log for the Summer Reading Plan for Kids
Also included in this summer reading challenge printable is a reading log. Not only, is it a great record to have, but it allows the student to see their progress, as well as, remember what they read over the summer. (Check out these other Creative Ways to Keep a Reading Log.)
3. Daily Check Cards for the Summer Reading Plan
Another fun element added to the printable summer reading challenge are these colorful daily check cards. You can use them as a check off system OR as a punch card as kids finish their personal reading for each day.
If you have a visual learner or a child who is task oriented, having a daily checklist can be very motivating for them.
4. Completion Certificates
The last thing in this printable summer reading challenge are some competition certificates. You can reward your kids with these Super Reader cards along with whatever other reward you can think of.
While not all kids are motivated by things like this, other kids find certificates very affirming. Not only does it give the program a nice, tidy end, but also, a fun momentum of their experience.

The fun of this summer reading plan is that it teaches kids that reading isn’t confined to a desk or library but can be done anywhere!
So give your kids the challenge and let them get started. There are no hard and fast rules, do what works best for you and your kids and have fun!
