Autumn Activities for Preschool and Kindergarten
Let’s talk about some autumn activities you can do with your preschool and kindergarten-aged kids. Here we go.
How do you explain the seasons to a child?
First of all, when you are trying to explain seasons to preschoolers and kindergarteners, keep it simple and let it be part of your daily conversations. Talk about what’s happening outside and let them know that:
Each year is broken up into four seasons: winter, spring, summer, and fall. And each season has its own characteristics and type of weather.
Seasons change as our earth orbits around the sun. As the sun moves closer or farther away from the sun we may experience warmer or colder weather on our planet.
But don’t stop there, follow up the conversation with thought-provoking questions about autumn:
- What can you tell me about the autumn season?
- What is happening to the leaves on the trees?
- Is the weather getting warmer or cooler?
- What do you think we should wear in the fall?
- Why do you think there are a lot of farmers markets open in the fall?
- How would you describe autumn?
- What food is ready to harvest during the autumn season?

- Identify the seasonal characteristics and weather of autumn
