Letter E Worksheets

I’m going to walk you through the eight letter E printables that are available in this packet. Each of these pages offers practice with uppercase and lowercase E while building handwriting, vocabulary, fine motor skills, and phonetic awareness.

1. Preschool Letter E Worksheets

The first two preschool letter E worksheets feature a picture of an item that starts with E. Followed by a large upper and lowercase letter E to color, and then finishes off with an E word to practice tracing.

Tip: Laminate the preschool printables and they can be reusable!

2. Uppercase E and Lowercase Letter E Worksheets

These next letter E worksheets help kids to distinguish between the upper and lowercase E. These letter E printables offer practice with prewriting, letter formation, beginning sounds, E vocabulary, and letter differentiation.

3. Letter E Beginning Sounds Practice Page

This next letter E practice page helps kids to identify words that begin with the E sound. They say the picture names out loud and then color the items that begin with the short E sound. This sound differentiation activity is great for increasing phonetic awareness.

4. Letter E Tracing and Writing Worksheet

Now for a practice page what teaches the formation of letter E. Before you start, make sure you instruct your kids to follow the stroke marks and tracing lines to learn how to write the letter E correctly.

5. E Words Drawing Sheet

For this next letter E worksheet, your students are instructed to read the E word, trace the E word, then draw a picture to represent the E word. (Note: If your preschooler or kindergartener isn’t reading yet, you can read the word together before they go on to the next steps.)

6. E Word Tracing – Letter E Worksheets for Kindergarten

The last letter E worksheet is a vocabulary list of simple E words that showcase the short ‘e’ sound. Have your kids read each word out loud then trace each word using their best handwriting.

Tips for Teaching Letter E to Preschoolers & Kindergarteners

E is one of the simpler vowels because is has two main sounds: the short or long sound.

The long E sound says its name /ee/ as in the words: she, we, be. The short vowel sound says /eh/ as in: end, egg, and men.

When you begin teaching preschoolers the letter E, start by using the short vowel sound /eh/. (By sticking with sound per letter in the beginning, it prevents letter sound confusion, as they are learning all the other letter sounds of the alphabet.)

Also, the short vowel sound /eh/ is the easiest (as far as E rules goes) and will be the sound they will first associate with E when they begin reading.
