Objects that Start with O for Kindergarten and Preschool
Preschoolers and kindergartners are working on recognizing letters and the sounds that go with them. As we teach them the alphabet, it’s very useful to have a list of familiar words and objects you can draw from, that corresponds with each letter.
Having a list of common items to draw from, allows us easy access for activity planning and instructional tools. With that begin said, Here are a few familiar things that start with O that kindergarteners and preschoolers will be able to connect with.

Here are some engaging and creative ways to use the ‘objects that start with O’ list. These fun activities reinforce skills in reading, writing, letter recognition, spelling, and vocabulary.
- Read Picture Books That Feature Objects that begin with O: A great way to learn more words and objects that start with the letter O is to read books that feature letter O objects. A few example of letter O books include:  Over and Under the Pond by Kate Messner and Owl Moon by Jane Yolen.
- Play The Items that Start with O Ball Pass:Â To play this game, get a group of kids together and ball (eg. beach ball, foam ball, etc). To play, stand in a circle and begin the toss. With each toss, you have to say a new object that starts with O. The first person to run out of O objects looses the game.
- Unscramble O Words:Â Challenge your kids to unscramble the objects that star with O. To play, write an object that begins with O on the board with the letters all mixed up. Next, set a timer and see if your kids can unscramble the letters and figure out the O object is. (For teams, make it a contest to see which team can unscramble the O word the fastest.)
- Make a Snack Using Only Foods that Start with O:Â Have fun learning vocabulary in the kitchen by making a snack that uses only foods that start with the letter O. To get started, brainstorm a list of O word foods. Then, see if you can make a snack or meal using those items. Some snack examples might include: oatmeal with oat milk, oranges, or an omelet with oregano.
