Letter V Worksheets

There are eight letter V worksheets that are available in this free letter V printable. Each of these practice pages works on teaching the uppercase and lowercase V while building basic handwriting, vocabulary, fine motor skills, and phonetic awareness.

1. Letter V Worksheets for Preschool

The first two letter V worksheets are designed to introduce letters to early learners. They feature a picture of an item that starts with V, followed by a large upper and lowercase letter V to color, and a V word to practice tracing.

Tip: Interested in turning these letter V practice pages into reusable worksheets? If so, laminate the preschool pages, and you can use them over and over!

2. Uppercase and Lowercase Letter V Worksheets

Now for practice in distinguishing between the upper and lowercase V. These next two alphabet printables reinforce prewriting, letter formation, beginning sounds, vocabulary words, and letter differentiation.

3. Color the Objects Page

This next page helps kids to identify words that begin with the V sound. Using sound differentiation skills have your kids color only the pictures that start with the letter V.

4. Letter V Handwriting Pages

Are you kids ready for letter formation? If so, V is a great letter to start on and this simple handwriting page is a nice place to start.

Note: Before you begin, make sure you instruct your kids to follow the stroke marks and tracing lines to learn how to write the letter V correctly.

5. Letter V Drawing Worksheet

For this next free letter V printable, have your students read the given word, trace it, then draw a picture that corresponds with the word. (Note: you might need to help read the word to the child, depending on their level.)

6. V Words Tracing – Letter V Worksheets for Kindergarten

And lastly, this pack includes a list of common V words that your kids can read, trace, and practice. To complete this page, have your kids read each word out loud then trace it using their best handwriting.

Tips for Teaching Letter V to Preschoolers & Kindergarteners

The nice thing about the letter v is that it does not have a ton of sounds associated with it like other letters of the alphabet do. The sound of v is /v/ as in vacation, vacuum, and vet.

When spoken, the /v/ sound is formed in the mouth in the same way that the /f/ sound is formed, the only difference is, that the /v/ sound is voiced and the /f/ is not (its just air).

With that being said, it might be a helpful exercise to practice flipping between the /v/ and /f/ sound to hear and feel the difference between voiced and unvoiced.

Another thing to keep in mind for younger children, is visual letter confusion OR letter reversal. This confusion is very common as kids are learning their alphabet, but with a little bit of practice, can easily be straightened out. The letter V can sometimes be confused with the letter U.
