How to Decorate Wooden Easter Eggs
Today I am sharing how to decorate wooden Easter eggs. Yes, wooden. It’s our fun alternative this year, to the hard boiled eggs and colored vinegar.
I always have mixed feelings about decorating Easter eggs. My kids enjoy the tradition and we’ve even tried some naturally dyed Easter eggs. However, I am simply not a fan of the stinky mess. Period.
I would rather eat the hard boiled eggs for breakfast, and decorate some fake eggs for the fun. Therefore, that is exactly what we are going to do.
Let’s talk about how to decorate wooden Easter eggs.
Where do I find Wooden Easter Eggs?
I’ve seen wooden eggs at some of our local craft stores, but I purchased mine from Amazon. They have a few different wooden egg options, as well as, rounded or flat bottoms.
I went with the flat bottomed wooded eggs, so I could have the option of standing them up. This feature was also really helpful in the painting stage as well.
Temporary Tattoos to Decorate Wooden Easter Eggs?
Genius, isn’t it?! Apparently, you can use tattoos on hard boiled eggs as well. Although, for our less-messy option, we are using them on wooden eggs. (Besides, ours will last a little longer than breakfast, and don’t have to be stored in the fridge.)
I found this pack of flower tattoos on Amazon, but as far as I know, you could use any temporary tattoos you have laying around the house. I’m sure kids would get a kick out of some animal, action figures, or emoji tattoos. (Amazon Affiliate links.)

Now for the materials you will need to decorate the wooden eggs for Easter time! If you are a crafter, you will more than likely have most of these on hand. If not they will be super easy to find at a local craft store or on Amazon.
Materials needed for wooden Easter eggs:
- Wooden eggs (flat bottomed)
- Flower tattoos
- Non-toxic white acrylic paint
- Small Paint brush or Foam brush
- water
- paper towel
- Mod Podge or Polycrylic
How to Decorate Wooden Easter Eggs
Now for the fun part! Let’s go through the simple steps of how to decorate wooden Easter eggs using acrylic paints and temporary tattoos!
- First, using the paint brush and white acrylic paint, paint the wooden eggs.
2. Once you have let the paint dry. Gather your tattoos, bowl of water, and paper towels.
3. Adhere the tattoos to the eggs by putting the tattoo face down on the egg and holding a wet towel on it for a few seconds. Then pull the backing off.
4. To make sure your designs stay in place, you can go over the egg with a light coat of Mod Podge or Polycrylic.
5. Enjoy!
Decorating with Wooden Easter eggs
There are so many fun things you can do with this reusable Easter egg craft. I plan on displaying mine in an Easter centerpiece and also around the house for the kids to enjoy. I might even break out a tiered tray to add them to.
