How to Make Fingerprint Heart Magnets

Today I’m sharing how we made these fun fingerprint heart magnets with our kids.

Earlier this month I bought an awesome old drying screen at a vintage market. When I got home, I’m sure my husband thought it looked like it came out of a dumpster, but hey, I saw potential.

I decided I wanted to use it as a vision board. A place where I could pin quotes, verses, and images that I find inspiring. (This was my attempt to be creative at setting goals this year.) 

Anyway, I needed a way to attach these treasures, and magnets seemed like the best option. 

After a little trial and error, we came up with these cute, little, fingerprint, heart magnets and I’m in love.

 

Materials needed to Make the Fingerprint Heart Magnets

Materials needed: (Amazon Affiliate links included in this list.)

• Non-Toxic Acrylic Paint
• 1.5 inch Wood Rounds
• 1/2 inch Magnet Buttons or Magnet Tape
• Sturdy Small Clothes Pins
• Hot Glue Gun
• Paint Brush
• Paper Plate

 

 How to Make Fingerprint Heart Magnets

1. Squirt your choice of paint onto your paint pallet (we used a paper plate).

2. Paint the index finger or just dip it into the paint directly and create a heart on the wood round. (Two fingerprints.) 

3. Set aside the hearts to dry.

4. Using your hot glue gun, adhere the magnets to the back of the clothespins. We used 1/2 inch magnet buttons that I picked up at our local craft store, but you could also use a thick magnet tape. Make sure you adhere the magnet with hot glue (I find that the peel-off backs don’t hold very well.)

5. Once the wood rounds are dry, adhere them to the other side of the clothespin, using the hot glue gun as well.

6. Enjoy!

• Use it to clip a card or bow onto a package
• Clip a compliment card in one for someone to find

 

 

 

Ways Kids Can Help

This is a great craft for kids of any age. If you’ve got older kids they could probably do most of this craft on their own.

However, if you’re doing this as a preschool activity, keep in mind their ages and what they are capable of doing. (Parental supervision is always recommended when there are magnets or hot glue guns involved.)

• squirting paint onto the pallet
• painting the fingerprints
