For each of these crafts, I used the red and green from the Astrobrights (primary colors) Cardstock Pack. Along with white and black cardstock, scissors, glue, and a little bit of jute string.

Let’s get started! Here are five watermelon craft ideas:

1. Mosaic Watermelon Craft

The first watermelon craft idea is this sweet, colorful mosaic watermelon. For this craft, you will need to print off the watermelon outline (from the free watermelon template pack) and then cut up some red, green, and black colored card-stock paper into random pieces.

To do this craft, have your kids fill in the watermelon by glueing the colorful pieces onto the shape while trying to stay within the lines (save the black pieces to glue on at the end, these will be the ‘seeds’).

Lastly, have your kids carefully trace the word at the bottom of the page!

2. Basic Paper Watermelon Craft

The next watermelon craft idea is a basic paper watermelon. This is a wonderful activity for learning the watermelon parts (flesh, rind, seeds, etc) or as a simple watermelon party craft.

For this watermelon activity you will need the free watermelon template (available in the free watermelon template pack), card stock paper (red, green, white, and black), as well as, some scissors and glue.

To begin, cut out the template pieces and trace them onto the colored card stock paper. Then, cut each piece out and glue them together (the red piece is the base).

Then viola! You’re done!

3. Watermelon Slice Garland Craft

Now for a watermelon slice garland! How cute is this? This DIY watermelon garland would be perfect for a summer birthday party decoration or a fun seasonal craft to do with your kids.

For this craft, you will need the free watermelon slice garland template (available in the free watermelon template pack), card stock paper (red, green, white, and black), jute string, as well as, scissors and glue.

To make the watermelon slices, cut out the template pieces and trace them onto the colored card stock paper. Then, cut each piece out and glue them together (the red piece is the base).

Lastly, tape your jute string along the back of each watermelon slice, spacing them evenly along the string, to create your summer watermelon slice garland.

4. Letter W Preschool Watermelon Craft

This next watermelon craft is for the preschoolers and kindergarteners and would make a fantastic letter recognition activity for the letter W.

To begin this letter W craft, grab the blank letter W watermelon template, Q-tips, a paper plate, and some kid-friendly paint.

To start, put small dabs of red, green, and black paint on a paper plate (this will be your child’s paint palette). Next, give your child a Q-tip for each color and have them dot the paint colors onto the letter W outline in the appropriate spaces.

To finish off the letter W craft, have your preschooler trace the word ‘watermelon’ at the bottom of the page using their best handwriting.

5. Paint Your Own Watermelon Puzzle Craft

The last watermelon craft idea is a paint your own puzzle craft. Using the blank puzzle page from the free watermelon craft printable, have your kids paint their handprint in red in the middle of the puzzle template.

Once their handprint dries, have them paint a green rind and then add some black ‘seeds’ on their watermelon using a Q-tip or a paintbrush.

After all the paint has dried, cut up the pieces of the puzzle. (These pieces can be stored in sandwich bags OR they can glue their puzzle pieces down on a separate sheet of paper.)

Another fun idea, is to have your kids trade puzzles with each other and see how fast they can put their friend’s or siblings puzzles together.
